What Silver Service Actually Means Here
Silver service is a real tier in the Melbourne taxi industry, not a marketing word we invented. It sits between a standard cab and a chauffeured hire car: you get the better vehicle and the presentation, while the fare stays on the meter rather than moving to an hourly booking rate.
That is the whole appeal. A chauffeur car is usually booked by the hour with a minimum. Silver service is booked like any other cab, priced like any other cab, and costs $11.00 more than the sedan for the same trip.
| Trip | Standard sedan | Silver service | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melbourne CBD to Melbourne Airport | $62.12 | $73.12 | $11.00 |
| Toorak to Melbourne Airport | $87.60 | $98.60 | $11.00 |
| South Yarra to Melbourne Airport | $90.12 | $101.12 | $11.00 |
| Brighton to Melbourne Airport | $93.68 | $104.68 | $11.00 |
The gap is the $11.00 silver service surcharge. The metered rate underneath is identical. The meter on the day is the final word unless you agree a fixed fare with us by phone or email first.
When It Earns Its Keep
- Collecting a client or a candidate from Tullamarine, where the first ten minutes set the tone.
- A board meeting, a pitch, or anywhere you arrive with someone you are trying to impress.
- Weddings and formals, either as the main car or alongside maxis for the guests.
- Funerals, where presentation matters and nobody wants to think about logistics.
- A long trip where the extra comfort is worth having for the hour you are in the car.
When a Standard Cab Is the Better Call
Most trips. A run to the shops, a lift home after a night out, a school pickup. The sedan does exactly the same job on exactly the same meter for less, and we would rather tell you that than upsell a car you did not need.
Book silver service when the arrival matters. Book a sedan when it does not.
